What is Metaverse?
Metaverse is a ceaseless 3D digital technology that combines multiple facets of technologies, including VR, AR and videos, to enable users to live in a virtual world. Guess what? Users can play, work, connect with friends, attend concerts with friends and conferences with colleagues, and perform virtual trips worldwide
What is Facebook's Horizon World (Metaverse)?
In December 2021, Facebook launched its very own Metaverse platform, Horizon World, where users above 18years from Canada and the USA have access to the platform. Users were allowed only upon receiving an invite to join earlier with the beta version, but after the official launch, everyone above the prescribed age was allowed to join seamlessly.
How does Horizon World Work?
Just like a comic avatar, users with Oculus (owned by Facebook) VR headset can customise a legless avatar to walk, interact with other users and play games in the immersive yet animated virtual world.
After acquiring Oculus in 2014 for $2 billion, Facebook consistently explored and built new products, services, and technologies to develop a centrally focused Horizon World Metaverse.

Is the environment safe for users?
Facebook’s Horizon World focuses on creating a respectful and safe environment for its users. Hence multiple safety options are included in the platform, including a wrist menu through which users can easily access their personal safe zone at any time – can report, mute or block other people.
Some of the dont’s guidelines given by Facebook’s Horizon World are:
- Bully or Harass other users including, stalking against the users’ wishes.
- Cornering or physically intimidating without consent.
- Encouraging bullying or intimidation of others, including threats to hack, SWAT or dox.
- Project yourself in an abusive or offensive or abusive way, including: making sexual gestures
- Supporting hateful ideas and symbols, or racism, or supporting against a religion, caste, sex, and disability.
Mark Zuckerberg’s statement – “Our hope is that within the next decade, the metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers”.
